Position:   Programme Manager (Fixed Term Contract – 12 months)

The Epilepsy Society is the UK’s leading provider of epilepsy services, with a pre-eminent reputation world-wide.  Through cutting edge research, awareness campaigns, information resources and expert care, it works for people with epilepsy.

This is a really exciting time in the Society’s remarkable history as it is on the cusp of a revolution in the field of genetic research and genomic medicine. In the summer of 2016, a Whole Genome Sequencing machine will be installed at its state of the art Research Centre in Buckinghamshire, leading the way in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy, with the aim of working towards individually targeted management of this condition which affects over 500,000 people in the UK alone.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, we are looking for an outstanding individual to manage all the installation elements of this critical project which will extend the boundaries of research into epilepsy. The role will require extensive liaison with senior scientific colleagues as well as the other professional project teams committed to its smooth implementation, including those responsible for:

  • Refurbishment and Building Works to deliver a state of the art facility
  • Installation of high specification IT and data handling infrastucture
  • Identification of systems for sample storage and handling, and their implementation
  • Acceptance and Roll-out, ensuring that the sequencer meets all pre-agreed acceptance and quality criteria prior to sign-off.

As Programme Manager, you will have operational oversight of the various projects and be accountable for the monitoring and implementation of this Programme, installing and launching this amazing technology that will change the lives of people with epilepsy everywhere.

To succeed in this role, you will need to possess an exceptional set of project skills. You will ideally be Prince 2 qualified with experience of managing complex programmes, with the ability to build credible relationships with all the key stakeholders. You will need to be able to demonstrate that you have the leadership skills necessary to drive a multi-disciplinary project through to completion within the defined timescales. A demonstrable depth of technological knowledge, preferably underpinned by a Degree in Computing or ITC, and experience working in a life science environment would be advantageous as would an understanding of the research and development process. However, more importantly, are the attributes necessary to drive this vital project forward successfully with a genuine passion, inspiring others to deliver success and being thoroughly immersed in a Society committed to making a difference to people, delivering a Programme that will bring benefits to so many people.
